Heat insulation recommendations to put over sound deadener?

I just covered the floor of my 66 C10, firewall and under the dash with butyl aluminum sound deadener but there wont be much help with the heat insulation from it. What should I go with in between that and the carpet to pad it without thickening things up so much I cant install the carpet? I already have the firewall pad kit ordered and plan to install that also.

I used a layer of jute pad on top of mine and carpet fit fine

I did the C10 pro kit from Vibro Solutions... it’s a little expensive , just be patient, they always have big discount sales and free shipping. I got the whole kit fairly cheap if I remember.

Me too. The carpet I bought had jute pad attached to it on the footwell and hump already so I added my own to the rest. I think I might of even got some with a foil type heat barrier attached to it too but i can't remember for sure

You will be surprised just how much temperature insulation the silver backed butal will give you. Adding jute to it will give you more sound deadening and thermal insulation too. Pretty good combination. There are few ways to skin this cat but the Thermotec is lot cheaper than the dynamat performance is similar too.

Another thing I did was pay extra for the "mass backed" option when I bought new carpeting. It makes it one heavy duty chunk o' fabric with all the extra plastic backing.

Ive considered just getting jute since the Noico sound deadener I used already has the aluminum foil on top. Also considering this stuff Ive seen offered on different sites and catalogs.

Thanks, Im hoping the Noico stuff I put down helps as a temp insulator but looking to add some insurance without going overboard.

Is mass backing a typical option from suppliers? Ive still got to decide on a color but im leaning towards a dark grey. Ill check out some suppliers and get some color samples sent and pick a winner.

Most auto carpet sold by any vendor is made by ACC. (Auto Custom Carpet) Bearing that in mind I simply shopped for the best deal and in my case I found it at Rockauto. They offered mass backed as an option. I called ACC to talk about it and decided to go for it.

I too have been looking into this... I have heard that jute retains water and can lead to floor rot. Therefore, I’ve been looking into modern composite materials that do not have the moisture retention properties of jute and also perform better than jute. Jute would probably work fine, but I figured this was another opportunity for me to overthink something for the truck!

Dynomat has all sorts of thickness. I picked up some Norco? 120mil pad for floor on Dodge with SQ stereo set up.

You're not alone in overthinking, thats what made me start the thread.

I have read that closed cell foam would be another option instead of jute but I dont know if it has good heat insulation value. At least not the stuff Ive seen so far.

I am interested in waterproof heat and sound insulation options also. Looking for ideas for an open top Blazer that might get caught in the rain occasionally.

If you're worried about water on the jute you can get jute pad with foil on both sides. I doubt a small amount of rain is going to make it through the carpet and jute to your floor.

If you're worried about rust, just remember before you over do it how long the original floors in your truck lasted. Most people are building something that is garage kept and not driven every day. So it will be solid for a very long time.
