No, they made a few small changes internally. HP increased at some point but the biggest difference is that drive by wire was phased in around 2003/2004.

It depends on a few things.

Condition-Is it a complete, running engine? How many miles? Rusty/leaky/dirty? It's getting hard to find Gen 3 engines with low miles in good shape (less than 100k).

Price-GM made millions of these engines so they're not hard to find and are cheap. 2nd only to the 4.8, these have to be the cheapest LS engines you can buy. How much is the seller asking?

Intended use-what are you putting it in? The LM7 doesn't make an overwhelming amount of power, but still a huge improvement over an old tired small block. If it's a worn out engine and you want to build an engine, it's a good starter with the iron block.

That's not bad. I would look at it in person and drive the vehicle if possible. Is it being pulled out of a wrecked vehicle or what?
