simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
Hi
Have a 53 on s10 and just looking for some simple black steel wheels with tires (no whitewalls). I cant seem to find where to price them cheapest? My other concern is how big (15, 17, more?) could the wheels be without any issues like rubbing? Something like this...is anyone running these? |

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
Have you thought about going to the junk yard and looking for some full size spares out of some caprices?
I'm running an 8.8 and was looking at crown vic spares until i found an awesome deal on CL on some chrome smoothies. something to think about... |

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
you're on a S10 frame so anything with a 5x4.75 bolt pattern...any full size car, heck maybe even look under chevy/gmc vans and trucks...as i think about it though not sure what kind of backspacing you're looking for...
hey you S10 guys what kind of backspacing do you look for on your swaps? |

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
+1 on the Cragar wheels, those are cool.
I tried finding some full size Chevy car wheels from the 70's - 80. They have a plain stamped look with no holes. Unfortunatly, places like Pick N Pull yank them before the car goes in the yard. I'll be running my stock S10 steel wheels and 54 Chevy hubcaps. |

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
I'm running black 15x8 Corvette rally wheels all the way around. Easy to find, come in lots of sizes and don't cost a arm and a leg.
Plain 5 x 4.75 x 15 GM steel wheels are hard to find, full size GM cars, vans and trucks including Astro/Safari vans are all 5 x 5 x 15. Last edited by FiftyTwo; 12-02-2014 at 08:03 PM. |

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
Several of the full size rear wheel drive GM cars from the late 70's and early 80's ran 15's on a 5 on 4-3/4 bolt pattern.
These are somewhat hard to find off a 76 Cad Seville That I kept after scrapping the Seville. You could also find a set of rusty but straight chrome reverse rims and have them stripped and then paint them. A bit more work but if you can find a set they should be dirt cheap. I'm not familiar with any 16 or 17 inch factory plane steelies for rear wheel drive rigs with a 5 on 4-3/4 off hand.

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
Look at Summit Racing, they have Corvette rally wheels for a lot less than $500 a set.

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
I'd have to think a fair majority of the S-10 swap brigade is into the 18 inch or larger wheels and fat low profile tires and Those tend to work with the wms to wms of the S=10 where 15x7 steelies that aren't reversed look a bit odd tucked way into the fenders on them. Kind of like running the skinny spare on your wife's mini van.
I did see some misinformation in an above post that needs to be clarified. Almost all post 1973 GM 1/2 ton GM trucks and vans run on a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. Depending on the drive train and body style the majority of Caprices, Olds, Pontiac, buick and all Cadillac Big cars had a 5 on 5 bolt pattern. You could find 5 on 4-3/4 on the mid size Chevelle or other GM equivalent size rigs and some full size Chevy and Olds 88 rigs. On the Chevy and Olds 88 you can't assume that it has one or the other you actually have to check. They had two brake rotor/drum sizes depending on the drive train

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
Wheel Vintiques OE Series 62 from Summit Racing - any diameter or width you want, and they're very inexpensive. I've used them on my last two trucks, 15x7 front, 15x8 rear. BTW, the pickup is an S-10 conversion with wheel spacers, the panel truck is a stock frame with MII.

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
steel wheels, 2.5" spacers. $5 caps from the swap meet. I staggered the tire sizes, 205/70 front and 225/75 rear.
I have switched to 3" rear and 2" front spacers on the latest truck, all 2.5 made the front wheels to far out and the rear not far enough. also, if you want to run a trim ring get the ribbed stainless ones from jegs, they are thinner than the huge stock GM type and have a great look.

This. I was on the hunt for 5 on 5 15x7s. These are not an easy find and pretty much only came on police caprices 1977 and up. In my hunt I came across 5 on 4.75s 15x7s over and over again. They are not that difficult to find and the two vehicles I found them on more than once were 1977 and up Oldsmobile 88 and Buick LeSabre. See if you can get your hands on the Hollander inner change for this wheel and that will give you a complete list of the exact vehicles this came on. If you can find an older junkyard that keeps the old cars I don’t think you will have too much of a problem coming up with A set. Steve weim55 Colorado |

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
anything GM oem steel will be hard to find in 7" width, almost everything was 15x6 or 15x5 in either bolt pattern. I think I have one 15x7 5 on 5 from a 60s roadmaster if you still need one weim. I also had a pair of 14x7 from a 60s station wagon, I sold them because have you priced 14" tires? yikes!
I used car-part.com to search salvage yards near (and not near) me, you can enter a vehicle you KNOW has the size you are looking for like weim says, I searched for a 1982 olds delta 88 and the car-part.com site gives you an interchange option on the results screen where it will show any vehicle with the size you are looking for. a word of advice, though. verify the size by the stamping on the wheel. a 7" wide wheel is actually 8" wide lip to lip (because of the beads) so if someone throws a tape on a 15x6 it will measure 7". in my entire state there was only one set of 15x7 4.75 pattern on an 83 98 regency, the other set that showed was on a caprice and they turned out to be stamped 15x6 when he pulled the tires off. I did have a truck with 15x6 and 15x7 and those ribbed trim rings I mentioned in my other comment, here is the picture. IMG_6937 by Joe Doh, on Flickr

Re: simple black steel wheels - s10 frame
i dont have the part number any longer but if you search rubbed trim ring on jegs they will show up.
https://www.jegs.com/i/US-Wheel/947/...5-15R/10002/-1 looks like they are scarce now probably due to covid, but they are generally in stock. i would rather staple my dangly bits to a stump than order from summit, but they have them too. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/wvi-3006-15-1
