Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
Remove the bagel cluster. May have to drop the column to do so. I will seem like more work at first but you will be glad you did.

Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
I am guessing "gage cluster" is what was referred to here. I must admit, I read it twice and was trying to figure out where my bagel cluster was located.

Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
Even if you use the boneyard arrangement from a later model GM, you will still need to tie in the wiring to the factory pump wiring. Meaning, you still need to pull the gauge cluster to easily access.

Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
I want a Bagel cluster!
Are you wanting to replace factory with factory? Or do an upgrade?

Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
I did jobber one in my 68 years back then put a factory style one in after they started to be reproduced and now looking at possibly upgrading my 72 with a newer style either 91 or 2003 depending which fits better and which can carry more washer fluid

Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
Why are you replacing it?
If it’s not pumping, have you tried “Force Priming” it? Take a squeeze bottle and hook it to the hose from the reservoir. While you siezest the bottle, press the washer/wiper switch. After a few seconds, If the pump is good, it will start to squirt on to the windshield. If the diaphragm is bad it won’t. The easiest was then is to put a remote pump in, and there’s several threads on what type to use and how to do it. If you’re going for the “Original equipment” route, then you’re about to embark on one of the more tenuous/difficult tasks associated with these trucks. Good luck |

Re: Windshield washer pump replacement
Totally agree with this statement. If the pump was easier to access then it would be no big deal to deal with, but it's about the most buried thing to get to under the dash, especially with AC. Doing a simple rewire and sticking the pump under the hood makes things much easier to fix any problems. I know some like the original squirt-squirt-squirt of the old style pumps, but that's not important to me.
