what is this inside my air cleaner?
Anybody know what this is and why its just laying loosely through the side of the air cleaner?
Its that piece of white plastic with some type of filter material on the inside of it. The tube part has threads on it and a cotter pin and its just loosely laying in there.... |

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
That’s the filter for the air supply to the passenger side valve cover. Part of the pcv system.
Should be a short hose connected to a tubing elbow that is plugged into the valve cover. Couple pics in here. https://www.autozone.com/repairguide...00c1528007d806 |

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
Ahh, I see, it must have worked its way loose. I found the hose and plugged it back up. I noticed the truck has been running rough the last couple of days, could this be the cause?

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
No, will not cause rough running. It is just a passive filter to ensure clean air is drawn into the engine if/when the crankcase goes under vacuum (i.e. PCV).

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
If your PCV valve is clogged it will cause the truck to run rough

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
It could just be my imagination but it just seems to be bogged down/choked down, not running quiet as smooth as it was...I thought maybe i needed to rotate the entire assembly to allow more cold air into the cleaner but I can't really rotate it much and still connect that hose.

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
Pull your PCV valve and shake it, rattling sound and your good. No rattling replace it.

You are saying it was laying loose? How tight did it fit the hose? Is the hose loose and splayed? I'm wondering if it didn't blow off Who told you? Yep. You could shoot it with carb cleaner and see if it frees up, but time for new anyway

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
Yes, the PCV valve. They can get baked into position. It will come out, it has to come out. You will need a new grommit, too. It is baked hard

Re: what is this inside my air cleaner?
Judging by the grime on the "clean" side of the air filter, I'd wager you have more problems than a stuck pcv.
