Engine stands

What engine stands do you guys run for your rebuilds when rebuilding the heavy straight six? I have a 270 GMC that I would like to rebuild this summer and was thinking about the sunnex geared engine stand. I just dont want some cheap stand and have to worry about my 500 plus pound engine falling.
Look forward to you guys thoughts.

buddy of mine has 2 of the sunnex...got them from northern tool I think..very nice
I like the 4 wheel design..helps prevent tipping

4 wheel stand is a must with any engine no matter how small it is.

Not cheap but I'd do some searching as Amazon prime isn't always the best deal $$ wise.

If I won the Lotto I'd order a couple of the gear cranked units and give the ones I have away https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sxt-8300gb 25 years ago when I was three times stronger than I am now I didn't mind turning the engine over in a stand by hand but now, that extra 200 might be well spent. Again search the part number for the deal including shipping.

Years ago I welded a cross bar on a 3 wheel stand to make it a 4 wheel and then welded on an angle brace to strengthen the upright. My 292 has hung off it for a long time, way too long but that stand is stout.

I bought this one from the school AG shop when the kid that made it didn't pay for it. Even for the cost of materials in 1990 it wasn't cheap though. I've been going to change the head to one that is more like standard engine stand heads for years but haven't. I don't really need to use it so it sits out back for now. Thick wall 3-1/2 inch square tubing. I went back out and measured. The thing weighs about 80 lbs.

Harbor frieght model is plenty. I got it from my dad who had a diesel on it. I have had a 4l jeep engine on it for about 5 months now. I didn't get it rebuilt before winter hit and all my mechanic work is outside. Its getting close to install time.

There are several different levels of HF stands just as a lot of other stuff they sell. I've got in the garage with a little 4 banger on it and it is plenty good for that but I wouldn't think of hanging one of my Chevy big blocks, the Desoto Hemi or the 292 on it. I bought that one at a yard sale for 20 bucks 35 years ago.

After me being under the HF jack stands and getting all 4 recalled I think im going to stay away from HF and spend some money and get a nice one.

If I had the money and was doing engines on a regular basis I'd love to have one of those. You would have to decide if the added cost of being able to turn the crank and rotate the engine is worth the extra money over one that you have to rotate the engine by hand on.

The 4 wheels spread wide apart are a big deal with me as I have had one tip over when I was rolling it across the shop floor and hit a rough spot in the floor. My fault for not paying attention and luckily it was a long block that I was getting ready to tear down but that is the stand that has four wide spread wheels now after I modified it.
