installing the 1 piece oil pan gasket
This 1 piece rubber seal is being not nice when I am trying to install the pan. It keeps sliding out of place. Is there anything I can use to keep it in place? Also, do I need to use RTV sealant anywhere on this gasket to ensure it seals?

the felpro 1piece gaskets i've used came with plastic stud things to hang the gasket from and then take the pan and snap it up into place and worked really well after reading the directions
both trucks i replaced gaskets on were 350's with the engine in the truck

would it be safe to use a 3M spray adhesive in about 4 spots and bond the gasket to the pan??

I just put a Felpro 1 piece on the truck yesterday. Mine didn't come with the clips either. I raised the engine so i could get the pan out. When i tried to install it I had to slip the gasket off to slide it on to the dipstick extension. So... I had to put it on under the truck. It really didnt go on to bad.

i think you'd have good luck by getting 4 21/2inch studs and putting them in 2foward corners and 2back corners thereby having the pan and gasket hanging then by tightening nuts on them get the pan close(1/4inch) of the block and getting the bolts started for the pan remove the studs and tighten up. once you have it hanging in place it's pretty easy if the gasket slips a bit you just use an awl or a rusty old nail to fish the bolt holes in the pan and gasket and block in line then slip the panbolts in

Complete FELPRO sets...
..come with the little blue plastic "dowels" for alignment causing a very easy fit to the block. HOWEVER...this is not your case so here's a trick I learned many moons ago that may help you. Set a small amount of sealer around the pan and put the gasket in place. THEN...take some thread and "tie" the gasket to each bolt hole....put 4 studs in block to align pan...raise pan...secure pan and tighten. Forget about the thread removal....its so small, it doesn't interfere with sealing qualities... After all is finished, call whoever sold that incomplete FELPRO set and raise *$&^%*&%$^#!! If all else fails, let me know as I suspect I've got a couple of sets of "blue alignment dowels" from previous installations that I can send to you if time is not critical.
Hope this helps!! 7T1BURB |

![]() TIM-- I LIKE TO STUD THE PAN RAILS OF THE BLOCK. I USE 1/4-20 SET SCREWS. THEY'RE CHEAP & TUFF & KEEP THE GASKET FROM SLIDING. I DO THE SAME THING WITH THE VALVE COVERS. IT MAKES THE GASKET SO MUCH EASIER TO PUT ON. I'M ALSO A FIRM BELIEVER IN USING ONLY FEL-PRO GASKETS. THEY'RE ONLY A FEW CENTS MORE THAN THE EL-CHEAPO ONES, & THE QUALITY IS SECOND TO NONE. ![]() ![]() ![]()

fel-pro went to great lengths in designing that new 1 pc pan gasket.i went to a class put on by fel-pro,and they don`t advise any sealer at all.all my chevy engines have them on,and no leaks still.have even re-used them at race track
