Re: Red Truck 2.0

Welcome to the site Yrik! Do you have more pics of the blue 86? I have a blue 1987 GMC with pretty much the same color scheme (except yours has the painted cab roof). Trying to decide on how to paint my truck. Thanks

Re: Red Truck 2.0

GMC85HighSierra,
These are the only others I have of the truck. Not a factory two tone truck. Someone did this along the way and it is not quite factory correct.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Yrik, these pictures help me out quite a bit. Here's a pic of my beast. When I got mine, it wasn't even running. Now it runs great (except for the smoke; valve seals need to be replaced). Has 87k original on it. Thanks

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Time for another update:

Since last time I bought another 1986 GMC long bed. It has been torn apart and inside since 1999 it came with a ton of extra parts mostly from 2 parted out suburbans. I have already sold enough parts that the truck is free.
I also got a short bed frame and cab with title.
So now the plan is take the doors and fenders off of the light blue truck, for the red truck truck. Then put all the dark blue parts on the light blue truck and sell it.
The short bed frame is for red truck 1. So are the factory rust free doors and fenders off of the light blue truck.
Now there isn't enough time in the day to get it all done.

Pic 1 they day i brought the dark blue truck home
pic 2 the pile of parts that came with it minus the large body parts in the bed of the truck
pic 3 the "light Blue" now dark blue in progress
pic 4 Short bed cab and frame
pic 5 Dark blue truck with left over parts. still have to pull the bed for the other truck

Re: Red Truck 2.0

It makes me itchy that my shop is such a mess. I just ran out of room. That’s why I’m selling all the unneeded parts.
This what my garage is supposed to be.

I'm pretty sure you purchased the beauty rings from me last year at the Monroe swap meet. Truck looks nice. Stop by and see me in Monroe this year if you're there to say hi. I'll be in the same spot.

The grille looks good, are you planning on using that on your Red Truck?

Yeah the grill is going on the original red truck when I get back to that project. The core support and fenders are factory and rust free and being used on it also!

Re: Red Truck 2.0

So I could focus on the O.G. red truck, I sold Red truck 2.0.
I was like I'm going to sell the blue long bed and 2.0 then I'll only have the original red truck and all the parts to fix it and I can get it back together....

That lasted from the Saturday when I sold 2.0 until that Sunday afternoon.
The guy I bought the Red k10 off of in the summer called me and said he had 2 c-10's and he needed money. So $1000 later I have 2 more c-10s.
Then a k-10 came up on craigslist that was a smoking deal, so I had to have it too.
I also forgot I bought a 89 suburban to daily drive
Ill probably never get back to my truck, oh well the saga continues

The first pic is the new owner of 2.0 driving away

Re: Red Truck 2.0

Time for an update.should start rolling on the truck now.
I sold the 2 parts trucks(pics1 and 2),
bought 2 more parts trucks and sold them also(pics 3 and 4).
I also sold my suburban and traded my k-10 for a 2 door tahoe(pic 5).
Now i should be back on track.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

I had the truck mocked up on the frame I was going to use for the air ride chassis. (pic 1)
I then found an almost perfect rolling chassis and scooped it up. (pic 2)
I made the decision to not air ride my truck because i didnt want to cut up what was left of the original body.
So 4 years ago this past weekend is when the truck got stolen, so I started to make progress again.
I swapped the new rolling chassis under the truck and installed Belltech drop spindles and rear flip kit like was done to the truck in 1990.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

More progress pics from this weekend.
The front has 3" drop spindles but I haven't done anything with the springs yet.
The white crew cab donated its 454 so I am unsure how much it will bring the front down.
On other trucks with small blocks in them I have cut 1 coil from the stock spring and it was perfect. I might only have to do half a coil but I didn't want to start cutting till it had all the weight on it.
I'm also on the hunt for a factory clean passenger side door and a tail gate in red.
The blue ones I have are perfect but thought it would be nice to have red ones until I get around to painting it.

I know its crazy. I have a goal now though. I learned to drive in this truck and now I want my girls to learn in it too. My oldest is 12 and half so I have about 3 years to get it done.

Re: Red Truck 2.0

I also found a set of period correct Centerline convo pros.
The first pic is circa 1996 of the truck when I was driving it to high school.
those centerlines were in the bed of the truck when it was stolen and not recovered.
The second pic is the ones i found. 7" and 8 1/2"
I had 8 1/2" all the way around before.
