I've never heard of a lot of those shops in the area. Detroit Speed is typically expensive but they do amazing work.
I've used Man-Made Legends in the past for Body/Paint on my C10, and then some other stuff here and there that I didn't feel like doing. They do good work, and are great guys but like many shops they have a backlog and may be waiting on the AC install for a bit. Best thing you can tell him is research the shops well and see what meets his price range and availability.
