Gilmer Pulley Set
Anyone running one of these pulley sets on a driver side alternator and power steering set up? It looks like the brackets could be used for either or. Just wondering if anyone has this set up and if they like it. Thanks

Re: Gilmer Pulley Set
Gilmer belt drive setups are used primarily where zero slippage is required.. Such as super chargers, dry sump oiling systems requiring an external oil pump... Gilmer drives are prevalent on high dollar racing engines, but I've never seen one used to drive alternators or power steering pumps on street driven vehicles..

Re: Gilmer Pulley Set
Never seen a Gilmer setup for accessories. Have a Gilmer drive for the supercharger on my LSA from LSX Concepts. Do not need it as I am only running about 10lbs of boost. Accessories are still 6 rib belt. If you want it just go for it. Just know that Gilmer belts can create a bit of noise.

Re: Gilmer Pulley Set
You could go 90s serpentine belt setup less squealing can be done cheaply if you scrounge the setup yourself
Looking at the gilmore setup reminds me of watching mad max as a kid first time i seen them on an engine |

Re: Gilmer Pulley Set
Yes, the red button
My thought is to measure the length of the longest belt on the original system and compare. Then of course you have to think of the added length that may come from other accessories, as well as sufficient belt wrap to drive whatever. If someone wants to spend the money and expects new belts to be available in the future, go for it. My question is why spend the money when the original, or a factory serpentine system work fine. I guess I'm more interested in functionality than beauty in this case, or there's an advantage I don't know of. Very possible... |
