Anyone have pics of their Trackbar/panhard bar/shock relocate modifications
Hi Guys,
I'm just about to order the earlyclassic trackbar kit and shock relocate kit for my 68 that has not had these mods done when it was lowered. I'm in the process of bringing everything up to scratch after the previous owner took some shortcuts. I am experiencing some cycling vibrations around 50-65 MPH. I am currently looking at the track bar kit, the shock relocates and the uni joint angles. I was hoping that someone may have some pics of these mods before I order just to give me some idea of what is involved before I bring in these parts from the other side of the world. Any help will be much appreciated as I am new to these trucks and am still way down on the learning curve. Thanks, Mark. |

Sorry I don't have any pics, but I can offer a little info on the swap.
If you look @ your current shock mounts/plates on the bottom of the trailing arms, you can see how they angle 'up' from the bottom of the arm.... the 'new' relocation plates simply flip so that the hole for the shock stud is now below the bottom of the trailing arm. The upper mount gets the rivets knocked out & the 'new' ones bolt directly into the holes. The holes on the new brackets are raised slightly to gain more shock travel. The panhard bar bracket slips in between the rearend bracket & trailing arm. You'll need to install that when your swapping the lower shock brackets. Then swap the shorter original panhard bar w/the 'new' longer unit & adjust the length of the bar so the rear end is centered within the framerails. I know some members have had issues w/the panhard bar mount interfering w/their c-sections. If your truck is that low, you'll need to modify the panhard bar bracket.

I have the same set up as TX Firefighter on my truck and it works great. ECE products are very nice and complete with EVERYTHING you need to mount them.

.....and, you can talk to them! Dave and the guys at ECE are real truck people. I ordered my stuff just before 9-11-01. I was afraid I wouldn't get my stuff, or that there would be delays and unknown situations, in the turmoil that followed that fateful day. Not to worry.....I got my stuff and in normal time. They accidently shipped the stock-height spindles, and a phone call had the correct spindles here in 2 days, with a shipping label for the return of the incorrect parts. None of that, "Well, let's get 'em back here and see what might be wrong" before they shipped out the replacements. They took my word and all was good.
I've had mine on the truck since the end of September, 01. It drives right and stops great. In fact, the brakes have gotten better as they have become bedded-in. The ride is good, and I pull a utility trailer from time to time. No problemo, senor. You'll be happy with what you get from ECE.

Wow,
Thanks for the great responses guys and what can I say about all of those pics. Now I know exactly what I'm talking about and will call ECE tommorow to order the parts. Did you guys use the angle shims that I have seen and read about in the suspension forum to correct the uni angles or aren't they neccessary. This really is a great forum and you guys are great. This sort of help makes owning one of these trucks a lot more interesting and easy as there aren't too many of them over here and less that have been modded and the ones that have been have been done wrong. I'm not using any shims on my truck. I just trusted ECE and installed all of the parts right out of the box. I couldn't be more pleased. The truck has no bad characteristics at all concerning the ride, drive, or handling.
