Removing V.A's sure fit kit louvers
Any hope of removing them from the manifold without breaking them? I want to paint the manifold in satin black because the high gloss lusture just doesn't do it for me. Problem is the lovers must come out to reveal the screws that attach the manold to the dash.

I'm guessing they just snap in to the housing. Unfortunately I tossed my VA center vent years ago when I found ones from a 60's Chrysler i liked a lot better.

Re: Removing V.A's sure fit kit louvers
I figured I wrap this up.....Vintage Air called me back today. There are tabs located dead center at the top and bottom of the housing. He said to squeeze just enough to get a small screwdriver in the gap and release them. Now we know.

Re: Removing V.A's sure fit kit louvers
So, in case anyone ever tries this, the advice from Vintage was incorrect. There are release tabs at the top and bottom but they are NOT dead center. They are at the ends and there are four of them. I got them to depress by working a thin putty knife blade between the louver frames and the manifold....nothing broke.
