Anybody buy a kit and do their own? I am starting to plan ahead past brakes, steering, and suspension. Exhaust is on the list. Right now I have a 2 into 1 with the muffler open right before the rear diff.

I'm torn on duals dumping right after the rear diff or taking both all the way to the rear. If I go to the rear I want to do something with both out one side. I don't want to go the normal two out the back route.

Photos of various systems would be appreciated. Step sides even better.

I can't help you with a kit, but I can tell you that my 85 K20 had headers and dual pipes with mufflers (thrush) that dumped under the bed right before the diff and it turned my bed into a speaker and vibrated horribly at the back glass. I had the pipes extended out the back and that helped tremendously. Whatever you do, take the tips out past the bed somewhere.

Usually build our own. About to do another one next week & ordered this tube kit yesterday. Looks like it should cover everything (buying bend pieces separately gets expensive quick) https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-670146, we'll see when it gets here.
I have learned on these trucks that turn downs dumping before rear differential & sliding back glass will about choke you to death.

I bought a Pypes 2.5 SS header back kit and modified it so I could tuck the exhaust between the frame rails. I have electric cutouts mounted under the tubular transmission mount and Thrush turbo mufflers mounted just behind the crossmember that the driveshaft passes through, and the tips exit behind the rear tires. It's pretty quiet in the cab unless the cutouts are open, but outside it's fairly loud, even with them shut.

Several companies make exhaust kits for these trucks. Off the top of my head there's Magnaflow, Thrush, Heartthrob, Pypes, Flowmaster, and Hooker.

I have Spintech Mufflers ... they have a nice deep sound.

In particular, I am looking for something that will mate up to the stock rams horn style exhaust manifolds. I want a rumble but don't care to shake windows and scare small children. I'll start poking around some.

I ran magnaflo on my last camaro nice tone and was a true bolt in affair

I am using the Heartthrob 2 1/4 system with hush thrush mufflers on my 67 K20
Have it 3/4 installed right now
Fits very well
Nice tone but can hear the radio

Is this a running truck? If so you may want to consider cost of the "kit" vs having a shop build one for you. I had a 2 1/2" dual system with a crossover and dynomax mufflers and chrome tips exiting out the rear done recently. No headers, using the stock ram manifolds. It cost me $650.

I did my own exhaust. I bought a flow master ufit 3” stainless steel exhaust kit and magnaflow mufflers. I ran it all the way out the back and tucked them up behind the bumper and pointed them down so the tips aren’t really visible from the back. It was really nice kit made it pretty easy to install and had pieces leftover.

For what the kits cost I'd talk to a exhaust shop and have them do it. You could order your mufflers but make sure you get the inlet and outlet in the the right position. My buddy ordered a high dollar kit for his monte carlo with a cross over system and we had nothing but troubles with it. Ended up taking it to a shop and having a couple of the pipes bent a little more so it would fit the way he wanted. Make sure it's the last thing you do if your changing rims,tires , suspension ect.

Bought the kit from LMC cause I needed a solution quickly. Easy to install, but was not happy with bends and look. Went to local shop and they tweaked it up for under $200. All in under $500. I see a few shops in your area like Pro Muffler and Exhaust, which does have a picture of a 67-72 in their gallery, so pretty sure you could get the system you want within your budget, especially if you provide a few of the bits. Also check out youtube if you want to get a rough idea of the sound.

I did a custom dual setup on my 66. Ran them through the crossmember:







Then did a tailpipe that wrapped around the fuel tank. It was dual rears, but more centrally located.

Just had mine done after my short bed conversion. I considered doing it myself with a kit but a local shop quoted me $500 with mufflers so I went that route. Figured the price of a kit plus mufflers plus down pipes for the stock manifolds I wasn't saving much money doing it myself.

Could you post a picture of the section that goes over the rear axle, I'm mocking up my setup but I don't see how I'll be able to cross over the rear axle with such a narrow path between the shock mount crossbar and the axle. I have a 8" rear static drop with the extended pan bar that mounts from Riverside frame to pass side axle mount so very little space
