How to swap the knob and bezel from OEM lightswitch for AAW

The American Autowire kit has the lightswitch with a chrome knob on it that I would rather use the OEM knob. Is there a way to do this? I didnt want to break anything. I did remove the shaft from each by pressing the side button, but the AAW shaft is taller and I didnt know if trying to jam in the OEM knob and shaft to the AAW works or not, or if you have to remove the Knob and place it on the AAW shaft.

You can remove the shafts and swap them. There is a little button on the other side. Your shaft has to be pushed in to press it and then pull it. It takes a few tries. You won't be happy during the attempt but keep trying.

Thanks RocknRod, I edited the post since I realized I didnt add the second pic. I dont know if the OEM shaft and knob as is will have any issues since the heights are different?

Thanks nsb29, that answers that.

Another question, did you have issues with it having room behind the dash to fit flush? I couldnt get it lined up because the height of that metal plate portion of the switch is taller and doesnt clear enough to get the switch flush against the bezel. I may have to grind off some of the metal plate.

Re: How to swap the knob and bezel from OEM lightswitch for AAW

If you pop it in, you won't damage anything unless you really try. I took the stock one apart a while ago for a cleaning and it's a very simple component. The shaft locks into a plate that slides over a series of contacts for off / driving lights / headlights. The only problems I could think of is if the old shaft is either too narrow to lock into place, too wide to fit the hole, or too short to turn the lights off.
