64-66 Instrument Cluster Harness

Anyone replace their panel harness? I just came in from trying to install some LED bulbs and it turns out I am missing like 3 or 4 wires that would have a connector on the end for a bulb. They aren't tucked away anywhere either. They just aren't there. No wonder my panel has always been a little dull at night.

So after replacing the bulbs that were there, my Tachometer gauge and temp gauge lights will not turn on anymore and they used too. Probably loosened a wire or connection when I had my hands under the dash? Anyway I will get that figured out, I ended up just switching the led bulbs back out and putting the regular bulbs back in.

So it looks like I am going to have to order a new dash harness. They run about $70 bucks and then try and swap it out for the new one. Something has always been wrong to begin with my wiring because when activating my turn signals the correct direction always worked up front but both rear brake lights have always blinked at the same time like if I had my hazards on but I never got around to fixing it.

Went the route of adding extra grounds to the tail light bezels and ran a ground wire from the battery all the way back to the end of the frame but still did not fix the issue. Someone had connected a trailer hitch harness on the end but I ended up removing it along with the hitch itself.

By the way I found a light socket that says when illuminated "Over Speed". I never knew the cluster had one. Found it by mistake when I put the turn signal socket/wire in the wrong cluster hole. So back to the harness does anyone know which one is a direct replacement for a cluster with factory gauges? My truck is a 1964 Fleetside. I have looked a few up online but they seem to have a different amount of wires with bulbs?

This one looks like it's for 11 bulbs?

Classic Industries part runs about $70

And around the same cost from Chevy C10 Parts.com It has around 7 bulbs on this harness...

LMC description is confusing, I have attached it. Thanks in advance guys.

It may be a PITA but on trucks this age, new wiring is a wise move. Yes, I know there are many out there with the original wires still fine. But insulation deteriorates, copper oxidizes, wires get worn and nicked, and eventually you have grounds and even a fire. Especially since you have been having problems, IMHO you are smart to go the new harness route.

It's possible that your original cluster was a standard cluster with warning lights which was swapped out for one with gauges. If the wiring harness wasn't changed along with the cluster, that could be the explanation for your missing wires

Thanks I didn't think of that. Have you ever seen a cluster with the "Over Speed" light?

They all had that and the tandom lock socket. The same cluster was used in all the trucks up to the C60. You will have holes that don't get bulbs. If you put led bulbs in what you have you will be surprised on much better the cluster will look. I don't think you are missing 4 light sockets.

Re: 64-66 Instrument Cluster Harness

I've only seen it in pictures on the forum. I've only had the cluster out of my 63 which is a different cluster

Yes sir, I think it would make a huge difference. I might try buying a different type of LED bulb to see if they work better. The ones I have fit but were deep in the socket housing so they might be a tad small...
