How does the glass run channel attach to the door frame on my 53 3100. I've seen a video where the person attached it with small screws. Can't find it in the assembly manual. My glass is rather loose and I think this is the culprit.

You do have the correct channel for your 53? I say that because some of the "universal" channel that fits the guides right per outside width is intended for glass with a metal frame and the space is too wide for glass without a frame.

Originally, I am pretty sure that they used some pretty small counter sunk screws to hold the channel in place.

I recently took apart my windows on my 53. The channel was glued in and appeared to be factory. There were no screw holes once I removed it. I used #4 or #6 screws to install the new stuff.

who's channel are you using? I just rebuilt some 51-55.1 door glass and it was as much fun as a pineapple enema. I will hold the rest of my comment till I hear which supplier you used.

The factory installed a couple of tiny screws at the top of the window frame.

When I have installed the channel I have done it two ways, each with equal success:

1) Tiny screws in the factory locations, or

2) Glue it in with 3M Super Weatherstrip Adhesive or RTV silicone.

The channel I am using is from the previous (12 years ago) owner, but is in great condition, so its a mystery. I assembled the drivers side and put it in with flat-headed metal screws, which worked good. But my problem still exists, the metal window track is rubbing against the division bar in the lower 4" and cuts into the felt. When the glass is about halfway down, it rather "shifts" forward and the track contacts the felt division bar. This happens as soon as you touch the window crank. I was hoping correctly installing the rear channel would keep the glass tight and stop this from happening.

is what you are calling the metal window track the piece that is glued to the bottom of the (frameless) door glass? I noticed when assembling mine that it was important to get that piece correctly centered on the glass so that it didnt contact the division bar (the upright between the vent glass and the door glass)

if its too far forward it can definitely hit the felt in the division bar. make sure the bottom of the division bar is bolted in, and there is a small amount of adjustment there too, fore (towards the front of the truck) and aft (towards the rear).

the top/rear felt channel doesnt really provide guidance to the door glass, more a suggestion of location.

Yeah Joe, it's the metal window track on the bottom. I centered the track according to the bottom of the glass, maybe I'll trim a bit off of the end that is rubbing, give that a try. It's Daytona weekend and my ass resides in a lazy boy every year this time. Thanks for the replies.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.
