parking brake pedal
My next project is to replace the parking brake pedal in my A.D.
The plate where the rod goes thru is so worn that I cant trust the pedal to hold. Id like something with a cable that goes thru the floor and has a pull rod to release it. I also want to keep the vent in the left side of the cab. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Re: parking brake pedal
I took mine out of a mid 70's GM donor car I scrapped out. I ran the cable though the original slot for the original pedal in the floor and could have done a lot better job of making a cover plate for it.
Mine has two bolts that go though the firewall and one that fastens to the side, I mounted it. I put that in in 1989 when I put the truck back together over a 3 week period so some things are a bit vague now.

Re: parking brake pedal
ok, is that pedal push to release with your foot or is there a handle to pull?
A push to release wont work with a 4 speed especially on a hill.

Re: parking brake pedal
Pull handle. Pretty much the same as in my 71 GMC or my 77 C 30 The C 30 has a 4 speed.

Re: parking brake pedal
lokar makes both a pedal and a handle which are pedal operated and should allow you to use your vent just fine.

Re: parking brake pedal
The lokar is fine if you have 298 bucks to blow on an emergency/park brake pedal.

Re: parking brake pedal
have you looked at an s10 pedal? push down, lever release. some have a cable for the lever I think so you could easily make a longer or shorter cable

Re: parking brake pedal
I also think the newer full size trucks have a pedal with a cable operated release system. I know my 03 avalanche did. Maybe jordon could give you a little more info on the S10 setups as he has dismantled a few, different years etc. I think the cable exits the floor below the pedal.

Re: parking brake pedal
I got a sm420 transmission out of a dump truck with the brake lever attached when I got my truck on the road 20 years ago. I decided to keep the lever when I swapped out for a 5LM60 transmission. It's convenient having the brake lever next to the shifter. You would need to fab a bracket, the bracket in my truck mounts to the underside of the floor.

Re: parking brake pedal
Lots of midsize delivery trucks with hydraulic brakes used a hand lever that when pulled goes over center and stays put. It is for cable style park brakes and has a fine tuning adjustment knob on the end of the handle. I'd say "80's versions of trucks like Ford F600's maybe?

Re: parking brake pedal
Maybe I'm missing something here? Is this the piece you said was worn out? If so wouldn't it be easier to just weld a little metal on it and file/grind it back to specs? Then it would last another 70 years.

Re: parking brake pedal
you are right mick, that hole is worn way out of round and has a tendency to release by its self. Ive thought about welding it, but im looking for other options.
