I was just out camping at a friend's ranch up in Elfrieda/Sonoita, on AZ-83, near Madeira Canyon... So much cooler there. I did smell brushfire smoke, once I was clear of the city and freeway. I wondered where it was from. Forgot my digital camera.

Me too! Exploring that is on my bucket list. This thread is the next best thing without being there!

Re: Cruised abandoned Route 66 in Arizona

I guess I should frequent here more often!! I'm absolutely loving this thread!!

I took my parents on a trip to AZ back in early April. We flew into Vegas, then drove through Boulder City to Kingman, where we drove 66 to Ash Fork then on I40 to where we stayed in Flagstaff. We ventured most of the Route 66 spots, visited the Grand Canyon and Painted Desert/Petrified Forest. We only had time to hit the well known parts. We spent the better half of a day in Winslow, another half day in Williams.

Seeing this stuff and how much of the original road is still intact is just amazing!! Thank you so much for sharing your adventures with us!!

Re: Cruised abandoned Route 66 in Arizona

I have to admit that I am just now checking out this thread. Wow! I've been missing out. I live in the town where Route 66 was born and we have several sections here to drive on and are still used as primary roads today. Seeing this is so much better IMO. I really appreciate the time you have taken to share the photos and the locations.

Kurt, what lens are you using in this frame?
