Motor Lifting Plate
I teach high school Metalwork and Mechanics. I've wanted a motor lifting pate that is versatile, but instead of spending $65 to buy one, I spent three days researching, designing, plasma cutting, and fitting a couple of them.
And, because I ain't gonna get rich making this stuff, here are the plans for you folks too. Dimensions included if you want, or a print-glue-punch for you hammer-friendly folks. Should fit small and big and Holley 2V, square and spread 4V, GM TBI and Chevy LS lifter valley. Let me know if things don't line up. I'll post a picture of the real thing once I weld it together. PLANS: Motor Lifting Plate

Re: Motor Lifting Plate
Very nice, as a professional mechanical designer the only thing I can see missing is what material you used?

Re: Motor Lifting Plate
Thanks. As a guy who makes a lot of tools with what I have on hand, I don't always think to list the material. I think there is a leader saying it's 3/16" plate, and you can assume it's ordinary mild steel. I'll add that detail.

Re: Motor Lifting Plate
Yes. I will post a pic of the real deal once I weld it together. I cut four of them on the CNC Plasma cutter at work.

I also didn't list tolerances.

Re: Motor Lifting Plate
I've pulled/installed probably 100 or more engines, and never had anything better than the angled brackets attached to the intake manifold with a chain that hooked to the hoist. You done good!

Re: Motor Lifting Plate
When I did mechanical design, we had a whole block on the drawing that detailed the tolerancing, ASME Y14 style (which superseded the old MIL-STD-100). If I designed something and it came back wrong, I wanted to be certain that it wasn't me. I've lost plenty of sleep over that. Ground support equipment that has people on it has to be properly designed.
