4:10's and a 26" tire?
So I have decided to swap out my 3:73 with 4:10's that I have had laying around before I go to the track next weekend. Do you think that is too much gear for a 26" tire and a 700r? I am not concerned about rpm on highway, I just want this truck to scream light to light. I would like to dip into the 14's and ran a 15:4 with the 3:73s. I hope the new shift kit and gears will allow me to drop a few tenths. So am I going to get 0% traction at the light? or not much different than now?

i was gonna say because i ran a 15.7 with 2.73's AND my timing advanced about 45 degrees |

if you haven't done anything to increase traction from the last iem you went then you will probly go slower with the 4:10's. torque multiplication dosen't do much for you if its just going up in tire smoke. some drag radials or et streets and some traction bars would help alot

I think you are about right with 4.10 and 26" tires, but you can go to Prestage.com and plug in tire size, etc. and see your RPM at certain speeds. You will want to be a few hundred RPM's short of redline for the best run IMHO, being in third gear @ a 1 to 1 ratio.

4.10's and a 700r4's 3. somthing first equal no traction without some slicks. But if you keep the wheelspin down then they could help make up for it threw the rest of the 1/4.

Honestly, 3.73's/26" Tire/700R4 sould be the PERFECT combo. Traction is 100% necessary to run good times. If you can get a 2.0 60' (or even better than that) you'll get some good times, trust me. Just remember, every .1 off your 60', is worth .2 at the big end.

That is exactly why I wanted to switch them, the truck is great off the light but just doesnt have enough through the traps. My mechanic is only charging me $50 to swap so if they dont work I can always switch them back and not be out a lot of money.

I was at the track last night and I'm running a 28X12 slicks with a 3.42 gear. It's all about traction PERIOD! These trucks do not need more than a 3.73 unless you have a 31-33" slick. The problem unfortunatley is no weight transfer to the rear leafs. If you put such a low gear in your truck you will hate driving on the street. I would put your money into the motor or four link the rear. I have many friends that have gone overboard modifying their rides to get good track times, but now they don't drive them on the street. I would rather have a high horsepower motor and feather it outta the hole than have a low gear and a high reving engine when cruising. It just depends how much time you spend at the track. I have gone with a 650hp motor and have the stock 10 bolt. I run consistent 12.50's and think there's another second to lose with a four link. I will never give up the 3.42's.
Please post times whenever you get back from the track. Oh by the way, I used to have a 383/450hp sbc and same rear and ran 14.2's, so bring on the power.

My goal is to run a low/mid 14 with my current setup. I'm pretty sure I can do it. But Cochino, don't forget NHRA Correction Factor. Where you're at, if you can run a 14, that's nearly like running a 12 at sea level. So, if you brought your truck HERE and raced it, you'd be impressed.
