Oil Dipstick Housing Sleeve

I kept trying to put the oil dipstick housing into my block (350), in my '72 Jimmy. As much as I tried it just wouldn't seat all the way into the block.

I went and looked at my '72 stepside and the housing was seated down into the block.

I looked into the block and it appeared there was a sleeve of some sort, which was not allowing the dipstick housing to fully seat into the block.

I was able to pull this sleeve out and wanted to know what you guys thought of this.

For now, I'm leaving it out and my housing is now able to seat completely into the block.

Have any of you guys seen a sleeve like this before?

Thanks,

Pat

I think it keeps your stick out of the moving parts. Seen 'em before.

Re: Oil Dipstick Housing Sleeve

Hello, Yes I just installed one in my block.
If you can look in the hole that came out of you will see a ridge that it bottoms out on. If it was not down all the way that could keep the stick housing from seating.

Re: Oil Dipstick Housing Sleeve

keeps the end of the stick from getting tangled with the crank. A small 1/4'' deep socket along with a small ball peen will help get that seated all the way. The outer guide can be driven on with the same hammer and a 7/16''? wrench
