everything else fits???
yeah i know, first world problem...
i had to replace a motor mount on 58 TRUK so it was inside the 50 foot barn bay. i was out in my 09 gmc longbed, aka TRUK, it was pouring when i got back so i opened the bay door that my 58 TRUK is normally in and pulled in to the wall wtf??? the hugger orange 68 elco lives in seattle now, normally 58 TRUK is in the end bay i knew TRUK wouldn't fit, never really tried it either, just thought it was funny normally the gmc is in the center bay that goes into the barn, it's 50 feet long

Re: everything else fits???
haha, nothing that a cut off wheel, some time and duct tape can't fix.
wait till dark, put a big light behind new truk so the shadow of the new truk is visible on the "wall", outline the shadow like a crime scene, then move new truk away and cut that part out of the wall. I suggest to enter fast the first time and after that the new truk will fit with no problems. |

Re: everything else fits???
That wouldn't be funny if I hadn't done it my self with the first F350 crew cab I had.

Re: everything else fits???
here they started building garages 21 ft deep (sometimes 22) instead of the standard 20 because suburbans didnt fit any more.
my production "shop" is my attached 19x19, built in the 50s

Re: everything else fits???
When I bought my house I thought the garage was huge. I bought a Suburban a few years later and realized my garage wasn't as huge as I had thought. Maybe it was the Suburban that was huge.

Re: everything else fits???
my son in law bought a 2021 Silverado 2500, the height won't fit in a standard garage door. i believe there's gotta be a bunch of pissed off truck guys out there. my 1500 is an 09 and has 6 inches clear under a door. he bought the full 4 door truck, i keep asking when he's going to buy the rest of it
the house i grew up in had a 16 foot door but was only 20 feet wide. i think my dad parked his car next to my mom's wagon one time, we all pilled out of the wagon and beat his doors in. the 74 ford wagon had about a foot to spare, there was always a hole in the end wall

Re: everything else fits???
When my grandfather built the garage that I have it housed a 1936 Chevy sedan or it's predecessor. The 51 Chevy fit but the 61 Chevy wagon required notching the center 2x4 in the front for clearance.
When they traded that for a 70 Chevy long bed C 10 he had to add the bump out for the nose to fit in. That is where my stainless steel work bench sits now.

Re: everything else fits???
if i needed the space, i could easily tear down the wall in front of TRUK. it's just a store room. if you notice i have lots of space that i try not to fill up. upstairs 30x50 hay mow is empty, other than my 40 foot ladder. not much in the garage area other than vehicles. mower, trailer and golf cart are vehicles too

Re: everything else fits???
My grandfather had an old tennis ball on a piece of cord hanging from the rafter where it would just make contact with the windshield when the 61 Wagon was in the garage far enough to close the garage door. I can remember riding into the garage with her and watching as she inched the wagon up to the ball.

Re: everything else fits???
I thought of this thread when I was looking for a box to put the dash/steering column brace in for 51 3600. You wouldn't think something that is 18 inches long, 6 inches wide by 2 inches at the big end would be so hard to find a box for.
The box ended up being like those made in Japan little metal toy cars that us older dudes had in the 50's that when they came apart you saw the label of an oil can on the inside as they had flattened the oil cans, stamped the little toy car bodies and the printed the paint job on them.
