55.2-59 lower door corner rust repair

Taking suggestions on approach





Have a feeling I am going to have to cut the whole left side out - the only thing remaining in door will be the lower support hinge bracket.

Bit concerned dealing with all the contours, round of bottom. Plus not much good metal to attach to.

thoughts ?

Well solved that problem .......
whats everyones thoughts on welding direct and shaping down with filler ... - or doing over the top with a pinch like normal

Another vote for the pinch per original method.

As far as the part I am suggesting that you contact Wes at Classic Heartbeat in Olympia WA and get the piece (S) from him. His price splits the difference between the two others but having been to his shop I can say he is seriously picky about what he sells and if it doesn't meet his standards he isn't going to sell it. https://www.classicheartbeat.com/pro...-drivers-side/

Plus as far as assembly he can answer any question you have as he has built a number of TF trucks.

Thats cool link to have/keep - unfortunately the skins are already bought tacked in place in pic above Was just deciding if I really need to rip out all the metal and replace it with a larger fresh piece ...... sort of short on metal and 18 gauge have to travel 45 mins each way to the metal store.

I can understand the drive for new metal thing. It's 25 miles in either direction for me unless I want to pay a premium at the local machine shop. I sure don't get any "he's my neighbor" discount there.
On the other hand that is why bent up hoods doors and fenders don't thrown away too quickly around here. When they hit the scrap yard they usually are missing some patch panel areas.

PLus metal prices are like wood prices a few months back - crazy

The big box stores have 16GA or 22GA in small chhunks ....... but to get 18GA I've only been able to find it at a metal distribution store which is almost 2 hours return drive ...... same with welding gas.

Not the end of the world ....... but figured Id ask

ahh - we've moved since. There was actually quite a bit around my old place within 15 mins .....

in st augustine now.
Still have all the big box stores ........ just not metal suppliers

Have you ever checked with http://www.bearwelding.us/ To see if they might sell remnants of metal?

I get a lot of my small pieces of steel and sheet metal and all of my gusset material from a fab shop/welding shop that builds farm equipment as their main focus. I hit a scrap yard that gets a lot of cut pieces and remnants from several fab shops and saves the interesting stuff and sells it by the pound.
