vacuum advance replacement
I need to replace the vacuum advance on my 68 c10 305. Two screws hold it in place. The back screw is easily removed but the front one is partly covered by the plate under the points. Is there anyway to remove that screw without removing the distributor? With the screws removed it looks like the pin that connects to advance the dist. could be slipped out.

Re: vacuum advance replacement
You have to pull the breaker plate around to get the other screw out, against the spring tension. Then you can weasel the finger on the advance mechanism out of the hole in the breaker pate.

Re: vacuum advance replacement
I did not know the breaker plate could be moved. I could not see on a diagram if the breaker plate had a screw holding it, or it it could just be pried over so the front screw on the vacuum advance can be removed. thanks I will try moving it.
