Re: interesting find!
The writing on the cowl say "NARVA" which I don't know what it means. The paint seems to be original. This is what I found online in Wikipedia:
Narva is a municipality and city in Estonia. It is located in Ida-Viru County, at the eastern extreme point of Estonia, at the Russian border

Re: interesting find!
Probably the name or mark of the inspector Possibly on the bare cab before it was painted I always thought that was what this mark on one of the cabs I have was
It evidently didn't let the paint stick in that area all that well.

Re: interesting find!
You can see what appear to be initials under the paint on this one too. Another cab or part of a cab I have.

Re: interesting find!
I thought this could have been the owner of the truck who was an immigrant from that part of the world at that time and wanted to have his mark on his truck!

Re: interesting find!
That might be if it isn't original paint.
A few years ago we went to a regional Mustang meet to look at the cars as My wife has always liked them. They had an old guy there who had been an inspector on the assembly line and had signed off several of the cars there with his "mark" He was the celebrity of the day with that bunch.

Re: interesting find!
It's too wet to go out and stick my head under the hood of the 51 1-1/2 ton that I think still has the original paint on the firewall to see if it has any markings showing.
If it is dry tomorrow I'll try to remember to get some photos of both the 51 and 53 firewalls.

Re: interesting find!
Narva is probably Narva green which looks to be the original color? My truck had "transport written on the underside of the hood as it was transport blue lower body color.

Re: interesting find!
That definitely makes sense but I am surprised why this was not a common finding?!

Re: interesting find!
Had forgotten about this topic but it looks like Narva green was a GMC color. Is your cab a GMC?

Re: interesting find!
Yes, it is a GMC. It is very strange if not many people had noticed these writings! I even didn't know there was a type of green called "Narva". I know my truck's paint has gone through the test of time but it looks like blue to me. I wanted to paint the truck as close as I can to its current patina look but that would be very hard with "Narva green" given the fact that I am not a body man and second, I didn't plan to spend a lot of many on the paint.

Re: interesting find!
Ah the mess with the old Chevy guys minds by throwing in a GMC and making us go through all the Chevy color chart looking for a color. I'm betting that I am not the only one that did that too. Better than giving us a thousand piece puzzle to keep us busy.
That pretty well says it all though. the color matches and they just wrote what color it was supposed to be on the cowl and sent it to the paint shop. Now we will have other guys out looking at their GMC cabs that still have original paint on the cowls to see if they have similar marks showing through the paint.
