Vin number location
Can anyone tell me where the vin number is on a 51. Is it stamped on the frame anywhere. The tag is gone from the door sill.

Re: Vin number location
You are seriously out of luck as there is no vin anywhere on any original AD truck frame that I know of.
If you have the title with the proper Door post serial number as the vin you can buy a new door post tag for 25 dollars from one of several vendors including classic parts, Then find a set of stamps with the right font and stamp the number in it. Those outfits also sell the correct rivets to install them with. That may or may not pass inspection.

Re: Vin number location
Was the vin stamped on the engine block. I have an original engine and transmission.

Re: Vin number location
No, there was only a VIN plate that was riveted into the drivers door jamb between where the door hinges attach to the body

there is a number on the block, and a lot of states used that number for registration, but its not the same number that would have been on the serial plate. if you plan to keep that motor in the truck I think depending on your state you can title it on that.

Re: Vin number location
Not planning on running that engine. It's getting a BB. I bought it from a non title state so I will have to get a registration from there and can then get a title. I will just have to figure out a Vin

Re: Vin number location
Joedoe nailed it. Some states used the engine block serial number up into the mid 50's as the vin while others used the body serial number on the door post/
If you have the title and the serial number on the pad on the block matches the title for your own sake hang on to that block with the serial number until you get the truck on the road and then are able to have the block matched to the title when you request a title that reflects an engine change. The state will then either use the door post tag or issue you a new state vin tag. Having that block is absolute gold though. Block serial numbers are usually three letters with a string of numbers behind them. Door post numbers can be decoded on a number of sites . https://chevytrucks.org/advance-design-vin-decoder/ https://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/VIN.html http://sanjosechevys.org/Tech/tech_d...chevtrucks.htm

Re: Vin number location
I don't have a title for it or a Vin plate. That's why I was hoping it was stamped on the frame.
