Question about 18" wheel/tires with 2/4 drop
Looking for feedback from members that have actual experience running 18” wheels and a 2/4 drop. This Spring I plan to install Western Chassis 2.5” spindles and new 4” lower rear springs on my daily driver ’77 stepside, 454, Big10. New wheels and tires are next. I don’t want any tire rubbing or other suspension problems with these. For wheels I’m looking at US Mags Roadster U120’s:
Front: 18x8”, 4.5” BS, tires are Hankook 255/45-18 Rear: 18x9.5’’, 5.29”BS, tires are Hankook 295/45-18 (can only find two mfrs for this size tire) The BS on these has me a little concerned as most of the BS I’ve seen are 4” in front and 5” rear, although those were on 15” wheels. I want to stay with 18s and not go with 20s as I prefer some sidewall to even out the ride. Want to keep the tires close to 28” diameter. So, is anyone running these size 18" wheels/tires on their 2/4 drop without issues? Or will it be a problem? |

Re: Question about 18" wheel/tires with 2/4 drop
I have 255/55r18s on the front (18x8 wheel), and 265/60R18s on the rear (18x9 wheel) of my lowered C10. I have front drop spindles and 2' drop coils on the front, however I do have a spacer under the coil to raise it a bit...I think in the end I have around a 3.5" drop on the front and a 6" rear drop. I don't have any issues with rubbing in the front.

Thanks Mattchu, what is the back-spacing on the wheels, and what brand tires are you running?

Re: Question about 18" wheel/tires with 2/4 drop
The front 18x8 are 4.5" backspacing and the rear 18x9 are 5" backspacing.
The tires are Toyo Proxes STIII. |

Thanks for the info. I'm really considering using your tire sizes. Many more tire brands/options to choose from.

Looks good TKCR. What is the back-space on those wheels? Do the tires rub?

I don’t know the backspace. They don’t rub.
