K10 Reman/New Steering Gear
It’s past time to replace mine. I’ve looked at a few threads here, just wondering if there’s some more current input. I have a spare, so I will probably try to rebuild one and use the other for a core. I’ve been on Redheads website, good reputation but a high core charge. Also they say the box fits up to ‘76, but I’m not sure about that. Thought squares had different mounting pads. How’s your luck been with the reman boxes, and what about these new ones?

When I spoke to them you can send in core first so you don't get hit with the charge at time of order. They are a good steering gear from what I have learned. Borgeson is about $200 more and I'm not sure why? RedHead claims to custom fit the bearings in them at time of rebuild.

Re: K10 Reman/New Steering Gear
The nice thing about Redhead is you can send in your box and have them rebuild it. I tried rebuilding the box from a ‘79 K20 camper special and it turned into kind of a mess. It’s an oddball truck with 14ff rear, 10 bolt front with 8 lug hubs, special brakes, etc. Could never get the right rebuild kit. Wrong bearings and seals, eventually I disassembled some other boxes I had. Was very surprised at all the weird variations I found. Makes me want to be sure I reuse the exact box I have instead of an off the shelf one.

I have used redhead steering boxes on 4 trucks. manual & power on 2 wheel drive, power on a 68 4x4.
