Charcoal canister improvements?
I have a daily driver 72 c10. The charcoal canister is shot, but before I swap or disconnect or whatever, I'd rather not have a garage full of fumes.
I live in California and couldn't care less about their environmental bureaucracy; this is purely me, not wanting excessive fuel smell. Now, while I don't care, I'm also not going to throw 3 or 400 dollars at this minor inconvenience. Are there any swap-in cans people have had success with? Is rebuilding it the best option? Is the cap reproduced for the vac lines if it does get rebuilt? |

Re: Charcoal canister improvements?
Thanks Leon, I was also looking for a canister. Just trying to keep my truck original.

Re: Charcoal canister improvements?
Does the charcoal in the canister actually go bad or wear out?

Re: Charcoal canister improvements?
In my case, before I bought the truck, it had been sitting and it looks like mice were living in it and destroyed it ...... otherwise I don't think they go bad, there is a filter to replace once in a while ......

If I remember correctly it turns pretty much into a solid mass. Someone mentioned in a thread years ago that if you are buying a used one to make sure it rattles when you shake it.... I have 2 or 3 of them, I will have to try that today. LockDoc

Re: Charcoal canister improvements?
Liquids, including fuel, can ruin a canister.
Canisters of that era were not designed to hold more than a day worth of vapor. So if your vehicle sits longer, fitting a larger canister, might help with fuel smell.
