Fuel Problems
ok not sure I'm in the correct sub group but here goes
I recently purchased a 1988 V30 Cab & Chassis 1 ton 4x4 Pickup with SBC & 4 speed - this is the traditional square body cab Truck had set for awhile after having new crate motor installed. Now previous owner had gas tank & lines flushed, new plugs & wires are present Truck starts and runs down the road but after short while its like the fuel line is collapsed or plugged. I also checked the fuel filter & it seems fine. It has dual tanks and have replaced the electronic tank switch. Has Eldelbroc carb on engine.... What would you check replace?

If it’s been sitting with any type of ethanol mixed fuel, it could’ve deteriorated the rubber lines. Just a thought.

E10 or E15 is very common these days. It softens cheap ornolder hoses pretty good. Which can cause them to swell it collapse. |

Check the suction lines from the tanks to the switch valve. Often overlooked and if original, probably crumbling away and allowing air in, breaking the suction.
If it had a charcoal canister that was removed, possible the PO plugged the vent hose. Without a vent, the tanks will eventually stop letting gas out. |

If you don't have a fuel pressure regulator that may be your problem. To much or to little fuel will sometime do this with the Edelbrock carbs. 5.5 psi should be a good starting point and go plus or minus from there.

i dont know how old the carb is but i recently went through three carbs that were brand new Edelbrock 1406 carbs sealed in boxes that had all kinds of crud in them.. the floats were bad and there was a black gunk in the bowl these all came from advance Auto Parts
