Oval Head Screw Washers

The oval head screws that hold the door panels on, they're 1/4"-20. What I can't seem to find is washers for that type of screw. Checked concave washers etc. no luck.
Anyone find a place that sells them in 1/4"? Not finishing washers!

Hey Rod, the screws that were on my 62 door panels had the "washer" built in to the screw. I bought replacements that have the same head shape but are 1/4" longer. Here are a couple of pics of my old ones... I think these are available as a set to do both doors.

Thank you. I have a few of those from the bucket of parts I started with. I opted however to use polished oval heads on mine. Someone else is putting vinyl on theirs and I was hoping it would help with the twisting of the material.
So I'm really searching for a washer for oval head screws that would work with the indentation.

Try DK hardware.

You should be able to find what you're looking for at any trim/ upholstery shop. Take you screw with you. I would be shocked if they don't have them. Trim shops use them for the very same reason you are wanting to use them. Keeps the material from twisting with the screw. Good Luck

I think they are called countersunk washers, not sure which style you need since mine were missing

These are # 10 flush type washers and they are just a hair to small to fit over the 1/4 x 20 chrome oval head screws Pic 3

Easy remedy is to use a punch and just barely enlarge the hole to fit the 1/4 x20 screw and still sit flush with the head of the screw , Pic 4

Take a scrap piece of wood and using the punch -Punch a hole in it , this supports the washer and keeps them from splitting Pic 5

Other than these old trucks I don't know of any other vehicle that uses a 1/4 x 20 flush type washer on the interior .

Well thank you guys. I did look at those but couldn't find ones fr 1/4" screw. The idea to open the #10 up may be the ticket. I will try it and see how it goes. Thank you for the suggestion and idea.

I mentioned DK hardware earlier in this thread. They can be hard to find things on their website but have had good luck contacting them. Here is a link to their #10 countersunk. Lots of automotive fasteners including screws to help when holes are stripped out. A #8 screw head with a #10 screw. Here is a link to their #10 countersink washers.
