48 Glove box install

I'm trying to put the glove box in the 48. I understand that the 47-49 had one glove box style, but I have not found any information on installing the box.

Does anyone have pictures or manual pages? I'm stumped.

Thanks.

Re: 48 Glove box install

do you have the trim? the 47-early 49 glovebox went in the hole from the front and then the trim went in the glovebox, then screws through the trim through the glovebox into screw nuts stamped in the dash steel. the later glovebox went in from behind the dash and screws went through holes in the dash steel into the speed nuts on the glovebox liner.

Re: 48 Glove box install

Joe, it's worse than that. I don't have anything from the original glove box except the dash. It was gone when I got the cab. The dash steel has no nuts stamped into it.

No parts. I've got the plastic Vintage Air shorty glove box with holes in the plastic. I can put the plastic box inside the dash lip or outside, but have no idea how to attach it.

Re: 48 Glove box install

I've been searching for a shorty glove box for the AD pickups and am drawing a blank. Do you have a part number for the one you have?

I remember replacing the glove box in my 48 with a cardboard one from a vendor and that it was every bit as complicated as joedoe suggested.

This may become another in a long list of fabricating challenges for you.

Re: 48 Glove box install

Mr48, here is a link for the surefit kit Vintage Air offers. You can see the glove box in this link - https://www.vintageair.com/surefit/c...48&model=Truck

I just told them I broke mine and need a replacement. When/if I get the part number, I'll PM you with it.

Otherwise, I'm still looking for the parts to assemble the glove box.

Re: 48 Glove box install

there is a flat metal trim that you are missing, it goes over the lip of the glovebox and into the dash which is stamped to take a screw. I think I have one hanging in the garage maybe, let me check

Re: 48 Glove box install

The Vintage Air plastic shorty glove box is PN 491412 and cost is $28.00 plus tax and shipping. They sell direct to us if there is not a dealer that you have been using.

Thanks Joe. I really thought the parts for this truck were more readily available. My inexperience again.

Re: 48 Glove box install

Here's an old thread from 19 years ago with the last post being about ten years ago and I don't think anyone on that thread has been on here in years.

Some photos in the last post that may or may not help.
