Brake and clutch pedals binding
After 35 plus years in the desert the brake and clutch pedal shafts were seized together.
I pulled the entire assembly out and managed to drive the clutch pedal out through the common shaft. After some clean up and new bushings things seem better but not great. It looks like the brake should pivot on its own bushings but I can't seem to separate things any further. Any advice would be appreciated. Photos to follow. Thanks! |

Here is how they are assembled. The bushings are here - https://www.classicparts.com/1960-72...ctinfo/71-745/
The brake pedal does operate on it's own, some people remove the clutch pedal for automatics.

It looks like the brake pedal sleeve #10 is frozen to the #2 sleeve assembly. The ear on the sleeve assembly had a small spot weld holding it to the shaft that is now broken. |

Re: Brake and clutch pedals binding
To close out the request, the assembly is back together and functioning. All three shafts, #'s 2, 3, and 5 were "frozen" together. As noted thirty five years of desert heat caused the grease to to harden like asphalt. It took some effort to free everything and get the surfaces cleaned up. I was able to purchase the 2 clutch bushings over the counter. Luckily the brake bushings were salvageable. Hopefully we can get the brakes and clutch bled tomorrow, and then on to the engine. Were hoping for a start and test drive by the middle of May.
Thanks again for all of your help and advise. It is appreciated. |
