Kickdown bracket
I just got my 700r4 trans built for my 66 fleet side. I am going to hook it up to a 250 six with a single barrel carb. Does anyone know if there is a kickdown bracket available for this? Has anyone done this modification? Thanks for any help

Re: Kickdown bracket
If you look somewhere like summit/ jegs, you should be able to find a variety of T.V. cable brackets ( throttle valve cable ). You'll need one to mount the cable end to the carb or the correct stud. And, one to hold the outer cable housing ( usually mounts the the intake ).
There's a specific arc the the T.V. cable needs to travel through on the carb side. And you'll need to set cable length adjustment correctly at the housing mount side. Make sure you read up on both of those. If not set correctly, it's very likely to damage the transmission. |

Re: Kickdown bracket
Check with Duane at Bowtie Overdrive, if anything is there, he would know…if possible set your tv cable before you fill the transmission, it’s easier to check with the pan off .Speaking from experience, and not a fun one…….

Re: Kickdown bracket
Your right there. I must have went from the trans pan to the carb 20 times if I did it once to get it right.

Re: Kickdown bracket
Yep, had more than one buddy blow his 700r4 because he was too impatient to get the tv cable right. You know..... "yeah, yeah, I'm gonna do it but right now i just wanna drive it."

Re: Kickdown bracket
Thanks for all the replies. Transmission builder told me to trailer the truck to him and he would set everything after i hook everything up. Hopefully i can find the bracket and he will do the adjusting.
I had my 250 six rebuilt last year and he (trans guy) said I can start it up and shift it , but don't drive it. Got a ways to go and am hoping for the Route 66 Blowout show in Sept. Thanks again |

Re: Kickdown bracket
Any problems during the motor break in?
Was it just your normal 2000 rpm for 20 minutes job? If you’ve got the trans guys words (about starting it and shifting it) on paper then go for it. Otherwise you’re taking an expensive chance he’s right. TV brackets don’t exist for six bangers. You need to make your own. |

Re: Kickdown bracket
This is what I made several years ago, notice the “test” part with all the different locations, the “spool” works as an eccentric for the correct ratio, more time in this than I want to admit, however, it works great….
