The PO of my truck put what looks like a shut off valve or something in one of my heater hoses for what pupose would this serve?

Thinking of removing it when I change my heater hose?

He probably was having problems with the doors in the dash that control the temperature of the air blowing out of the vents. The valve would allow him to shut off the hot water going to the heater core during the summer, keeping it cooler in the cab.

It's probably a manual shut off valve for the heater core. Our old trucks didn't come with a valve of any kind to keep the heater core from circulating water all the time, and since you don't typically need your heater in the summer, you can install a manual valve to shut off the water flow during the hot months. This helps some with A/C by not having to overcome the "hot box" under the dash. I've even seen folks who have taken the hose that goes into the heater core and loop it right back to the radiator, completely bypassing the heater core.

That makes since. I hooked my blower fan up to a toggle switch and just shut off the fan in summer. So it will be ok if I remove it when I replace my hoses just dont like the look of it.

Open the valve & drive it for a while to make sure your feet don't get heated just from the movement of the vehicle.

I have never touched the valve so I assume it is open have used it 2 winters and heat works so must be open.

Yes if the heater is working, then the valve is open.

Does the truck have a/c? Does it work well? If it cools good enough then there is no reason why you can't remove the valve....

No a.c all a.c. parts have been removed.

Then we will have to assume the PO thought it would help keep the cab cooler during the summer. If you haven't shut it off during the summer you might give it a try. You may decide to keep it....
