I'm thinking that this should be a far simpler solution and you might find a switch that you can get and make your own bracket if you want. This is as easy as it gets if you have a Hurst shifter or the directions should help you figure it out.

That is a great help. I'm taking my granddaughter out for a driving lesson right now, but will check later tonight to see if this solution works, or at worst gives me a great idea. Thank you.

the brake light switch is usually activated by the brake pedal assembly under the steering column under the dash.

To adapt this switch ( https://www.summitracing.com/parts/aww-01998728 ) replace 2 side cover bolts with threaded rod and fasten a nut to keep cover plate tight. Then with the protruding threaded rod, place the switch plate on and secure with 2 more nuts.

Then, make a rod (coat hanger) and attach to the reverse lever of the trans. I drilled a hole in mine and made a 'Z' shape in the rod to fit in the hole. (like a door latch rod in a door)

look for a saginaw 4 speed reverse light kit. These have been around for ever. fits Novas and so on.
installed it looks like this:


since your shift levers are flipped over you may need to give it some thought.
