Question for Crossy

Hello, I found a 1980 C-10 in a local junkyard. It has the factory tach in it. The windsheild is gone, and has been sitting there about 2 years. Is this tach worth getting for my 83 C-20? I can get a new circuit panel for the rear, new gauges(fuel, volts ect.) but can the tach be serviced?? I see these on Ebay all the time, but can't part with that amount of cash, for something that will need rebuilding. I think I can get this one reasonable. What do you think?? I would like to here from "The expert". Thanks, David

If' it's CORE type cheap (say $25-35) and all the gauge faces are not rusted then yes, get it. Only the real early 73-76? tachs are not serviceable. see 73-87.com for the dirt on tachs. someone give him the link please, DAVE

Thanks for the info Dave. I have read the info you put on 73-87.com. It mentioned the early tach's not being servicable, but nothing about the later ones. I'm going back there in a few weeks, and see what I can get it for. Thanks again! David

the tachs that are not serviceable have their circuitry completely coverd in a reddish-colored conformal coating. the ones that are havea small circuit board on the back that all the small componets can be seen on.
I cannot find the link to the tach article on Jeff's site???
withthe price of these units bringing what they are now , and if you want one bad enough, it may be worth while to get a rebuildable one and pay the $125++ to get a tach fixed. NONE of the individual circuit boards , or other tach parts are available new or repro for the trucks. DAVE
