One vent window done
Actually was easier than I had built it up my head . Took me about 4 hours start to finish . I found that a die grinder worked better at removing the old rivets. Not impressed with the tool to round the rivets either , didn’t give a nice roll more or less just crushed it . But it will work if I were doing these often I would buy the right tool . I buffed the stainless prior to painting . Found that a piece of I beam worked better than trying to clamp a piece of metal in the vise . But all in all I’m happy with the results . The rubber kit had no name on it but the side glass door felts are Precision products

Re: One vent window done
The I beam worked perfectly couldn’t get a picture actually setting the rivets again would need three hands but you get the idea . Mostly a one person job until trying to attach the uppers together need two people for that .

Re: One vent window done
I rebuilt mine recently and it cost me over $1000 when I was through. Went to a little shop close to the house that had a lot of truck carcasses sitting around looking for a part that was rusted through and came home with a spare vent frame and a 65 mustang fastback….

Re: One vent window done
The glass is just sitting in there . It came out of the frame as I was taking it apart . Guess it’s a good thing as it has grind marks in it from the prior paint . Guess I’ll be ordering a new one . Not sure how it’s set in the frame as the gasket is pretty deteriorated. I seem to remember that they used a setting tape back in the day.

Re: One vent window done
Well done. When I rebuilt mine removing the spring retainer was my most nerve racking part.

Good idea on the channel. You don't mention where you got the kit, but from my experience Classic Parts has the best vent window seals on the market. https://www.classicparts.com/1967-72...ctinfo/03-807/ Here is a comparison on a couple of different brands: https://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vbo...d.php?t=660294 The whole thread is an interesting read but the comparison starts at Post #29. Sorry about the hijack Mark but I think it is really important to start out with the best product you can get on these..... LockDoc

The good ole Tubular Rivet.... One thing I can say with the tool they send is if you take a long 3/8 extension and put it over the tool to strike the rivet it rounds them out very nicely instead of just striking the tool. Tubular rivet tools are a hard purchase for something you barely use. Unless you plan on doing a lot of these window units. The corvette one is around $100 and the aviation style goes higher than that. Smitty
