Rust in fuel tank
I pulled the fuel tank and I see some rust. About 15% of the bottom of the tank. Anyone here repaired a rusty tank?

Re: Rust in fuel tank
I pulled the sending unit on mine and it was spotless inside. A month later it was leaking. It rusted through from the outside because of the factory skid plate. If the outside looks ok then it's a coin flip. New ones are cheap peace of mind.

Re: Rust in fuel tank
My driver's side tank rusted from the outside in where the straps hold it in place. The inside was otherwise clean.
If money is an issue and the rust is light, make sure your sock is in good shape and install a filter (Fram G3) in the rubber line from the frame to the fuel pump. Heavy rust = buy new tank. The metal isn't that thick so large chunks of rust mean very thin good metal where the pieces fell off. |

Re: Rust in fuel tank
I don't have any rust on the outside. The rust is o the inside of the tank covering about 15% of the bottom inside.
