Part Recognition
Anyone have an idea what vehicle the license plate "frame" might have come from? The bumper is a 55-9 Chevy Panel. The current owner said the original owner could not remember what the "U" shaped piece came from but did say it was flipped 180 deg ("U" facing up) in its original orientation. I don't know how much modification was made to it but it sure fits the bumper profile well.

Re: Part Recognition
There is a good chance that it is a modified to fit 49/50 Chevy car
Front license plate guard The rusty one is the one I bought from the auction of Bob-K of the HAMB's estate a few years ago. I think I paid like 3.50 for it and the plan was to use it as the sacrificial trim and fit unit to fit the 49 Plymouth bumper for my 48 before cutting up a new shiny one but now the plan is to fit it, try the rust removing concoctions that guys have suggested in rust removal threads, clean it up and lay some brass on it and start doing finish work on it until it is good enough for new chrome. This is the link to the page I photo shopped the add from https://knsacc.com/antique-car-parts...%94%82-kc5017/ Speedway and several other outfits sell them though https://www.speedwaymotors.com/1949-...me,332317.html One more shot from the KNS page, Nice frame too

Re: Part Recognition
The guard in it's natural environment.
The one on the back of the Chevy pickup with a 49 Plymouth front bumper is what I plan to do on the front of mine. Oops, redo here. This is going to be above the 49 Chevy deluxe though.

I thought at first that they were 49/50 Mercury but they aren't. I'm thinking that they were custom made out of tubing and then chromed.

Re: Part Recognition
That might be a viable option - if its handy could you take some measurements for me? Especially the depth from an end view because that's where all the trimming to fit the bumper would be. Be nice to try and get a better idea of fit before dropping $200 and cutting it up. Thanks. -Bob

Re: Part Recognition
I've got to go dig it out of the snow but I'll get some measurements.
I ran out and it wasn't where I thought it was and it is 8 degrees F out there right now. I'll have to look tomorrow.

Re: Part Recognition
I must have knocked it off the place it was last night when I was looking for it because it was sitting on top of the fresh snow this morning .
Here are the measurement photos after I had to explain to Jean's "what is that" question. If you need more or specific measurements let me know as I'll leave it on top of the cat food bin for a day or two. I might even dig my profile gauge out and go get the bumper profile and do some drawing. I hope someone in the family likes those candy coated pretzles as they aren't my favorite. The Starbucks Frappuccino works pretty good to hold down a tape mesure for two hand photo taking.

One other measurement please. The deepest looks to be just short of 4", how about the shortest depth in the middle of the end view. Thanks for digging it out and measuring. -Bob |
