LS PS and 71 steering gear
Wanting to make sure I don't overpressure the old steering box with the 5.3 PS pump...
How many shims do I need in the pump? I ask this way because I don't have a pressure gauge setup for this, but I can count to six or so. Thanks. Loren

Re: LS PS and 71 steering gear
I would suggest you hook it up and see. I doubt you will over pressure it. It would be hard to tell anyway as from factory there was little road feel anyway. The only time I would use shims is if you had rack and pinion.
I am actually having the opposite problem. I'm beginning to think it is my box. I will know in about a week when I put another new pump on. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=840389 |

Re: LS PS and 71 steering gear
I'm running the 71 steering gear with the LS pump and hydro boost and the gearbox is fine as is.

I have been running the '76 steering box in my '67 Panel Truck with the LS1 power steering pump since 2015. I have had no problems with it. I just had to use the adapters in the steering box for the newer hoses: Borgeson 923122GM o ring adapter. https://www.amazon.com/Borgeson-925122/dp/B01E2Q1NO4 LockDoc
