Glove box full of water
Hey my 67 has been sitting for about a month outside and I took it out for a drive today and the glove box was full of water. I'm assuming this is like coming from the wiper bezels or something. We leaky windshield gasket? If anybody has any ideas of the possibilities where I could look other than those two things please let me know thank you

Re: Glove box full of water
The cab cowl area where the wiper mechanism operates has a large seam right above the glovebox, and this seam likes to rust out. Maybe it leaks a bit for you as well.

Re: Glove box full of water
There is a channel formed by the flange on the dash where it meets the cowl flange. These two flanges form the windshield opening.. If the windshield gasket leaks, the water will collect in this channel.. In each end of this channel there is a drain hole.. Water passing through this hole on the passenger side will collect in the glove box.
When everything dries out, using a garden hose with a nozzle on it, sprinkle water on the windshield. Check the area around the windshield and cowl seam areas for water seepage.. |

Re: Glove box full of water
My leak which made it to the glovebox was the grommet in the firewall around the radio antenna. You have to remove the wiper arms and cowl panel for access which isn't difficult, but it is helpful to have a second set of hands to avoid scratching paint.

There is a seam on the right side of the glove box liner. The bottom half overlaps the top half, so any water that does leak in has a direct channel to the inside of the glove box. I always seal this seam up with bath tub chalking before I put the liners in, just in case..... LockDoc

Re: Glove box full of water
ToonMan, if/when you get your water leak issue figured out and need to replace any parts, we are also here in Oregon. As of typing this reply, we currently have all three styles of the precision windshield gasket/seals in stock and we also have both styles of the cardboard glove box insert liners on hand too. Lmk, Mel

Re: Glove box full of water
Please let us know what you find out. I had a similar problem, my leak was coming from the windshield gasket. Pictures of what you find would help too.
I have another small leak on the drivers side though...coming from somewhere else. I'll follow the advice from the previous posts to try to find it. |

Re: Glove box full of water
One of the first lessons I learned when I got into these trucks. Keep anything you put in the glove box in a zip lock bag. They don't all leak, but its a pain when you get one that does.

Re: Glove box full of water
I guess I'm fairly new to these era trucks, but this thread is the first I've heard of this issue. But with all of the seams above it that are KNOWN serious leaking issues, it's not surprising.

Re: Glove box full of water
One of the good thngs the PO did on my Burban was he covered the outside of the glove box with a self-adhesive heavy aluminum foil. When I first saw it I thought it was for heat reduction but come fall after I got the truck on the road and it took the glass shop 4 tries to get the windshield to seal the need to waterproof the glove box was readily apparent.
