Backspace question ?

What be a better backspace for a fleetside with a 5 inch drop, if I use a 20" wheel.

4.75" or 5.00 "

Re: Backspace question ?

Backspace is directly related to wheel width.
I’ve never had a 60-66 truck, but you’re going to have to provide more info.
20x8?
20x9?
20x9.5?
20x10?
What width rearend?
Drop spindles?
See where I’m going?
Hopefully some60-66 experts can help you.

There’s a tool called Wheelright, if I remember the name correctly, you can adjust wheel size, backspace and diameter, they are sold in Summit…will really help you….

Recently I dropped my 66 3" all the way around. I bought new rims and tires and measuring the backspace on the stock wheels at around 3.5" I tried to stick to that so the fronts were 15x6 with 3.75 backspace and were fine. I wanted 15x8 for the rear and only had a 2.5" backspace to choose from. I wanted that deep dish look but when mounted the outer edge of the wheels were directly inline with the rear inner fender lip. I had to get 15x7 so I could get a 4" backspace and they fit perfectly. A 4.5" would be necessary for an 8" or 9" rim. Any wider would likely have issues fitting at all
