Header Advice
Hi! I have a 327 that I need headers for. Motor isn't currently in the truck yet. Looking to get a head start on looking for them in the event what i need is on back order. What should I be looking for? Do I need long tube or block huggers? I am not looking to do much for custom fit. Just need something to go in with no modification or minimal modification to make work. I have a TH 350 Trans and I kept the Torsion Bars. Thanks in advance.

My '64 came to me with block huggers on a 305. They fit nicely, no interference with anything. But I'm not familiar with the torsion bar suspension, so I don't know if there would be different choke points.

Block huggers will be the easiest headers to install with good clearance for everything. I have 1-7/8 hooker mid lengths on mine. I went with mids because I wanted more ground clearance. I will say I don't think I would use 1-7/8 again. It's a major pain to get to the header bolts.

Automatics are easiest to deal with when installing headers. You mentioned the transmission type is a automatic. A lot easier and you have more options with automatic. Shorties are also easier to install and clearance most everything. Long tube are king in the HP races. Often you have to relocate the shifter linkage to clear even the shorties. There is a kit that comes right off the column and directly to the shift linkage on the transmission. Where you run the exhaust makes a difference also.
I wouldn't get to far ahead of myself on the purchase. They will not be returnable if you wait too long to try them. We have all been burn on that one. Cheers |

I've had really good results with any of these on my sbc, TH350 or 700R4, lowered torsion bar C10.
