Is a c10 steering column same as a c30?

I have a chance at a parts truck but it's a c30. Would the columns be the same? I'm not worried about changing some wiring or whatnot, more concerned about physical fit. Thanks.

Re: Is a c10 steering column same as a c30?

Is this going in your 1980 C-10?
What year is the parts truck?
Do both trucks have Power steering?
Are both trucks automatic?
Do either have a tilt wheel?
Are they both 2wd trucks?

With these questions answered,
Someone else may tell you exactly if they will fit.
Beside like you mentioned (The wiring of different stuff)
As dimmer switches ETC.

I have swapped a few.
Some will interchange if you use the Lower shaft that is in your truck currently.

There were a few variations, most are pertaining to the intermediate shaft.

Hope this helps

80 truck, 81 cab 87 chassis, all c 10. No column currently, it got destroyed when the truck was on loan. Parts truck is a. 85. C30

Parts truck is a manual but I don't mind a floor shifter

Re: Is a c10 steering column same as a c30?

You are bolting the 85 column in an 81 cab to a 87 steering box.

That should work.

The intermediate shaft will be the only thing in question.

Here is an Interchange list I found for a 84-87 mt steering column.

[1984-87 column shift; manual transmission}

CHEVROLET 10 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; MT

CHEVROLET 20 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; MT

CHEVROLET 30 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; MT

GMC 1500 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; MT

GMC 2500 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; MT

GMC 3500 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; MT

SUBURBAN 10 84-87 Column Shift; MT

SUBURBAN 1500 84-87 Column Shift; MT

SUBURBAN 20 84-87 Column Shift; MT

SUBURBAN 2500 84-87 Column Shift; MT

The swap I done years ago,
Was a 2wd cab on a 4wd frame (Cut Hole in floor for transfer case shifter)

I had a 77 steering wheel and cab connected to a 78 4wd steering box.

IIRC The only thing I had to do was use the intermediate shaft from the 4wd.
and it fit the 2wd steering column.

Here's the automatic column just for reference.

[1984-87 column shift; automatic transmission; no tilt; w/ delay wipers]

238-1138C ----------

BLAZER/JIMMY (full size) 84-87 Column Shift; w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

CHEVROLET 10 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

CHEVROLET 20 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

CHEVROLET 30 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

GMC 1500 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

GMC 2500 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

GMC 3500 PICKUP 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

SUBURBAN 10 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

SUBURBAN 1500 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

SUBURBAN 20 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

SUBURBAN 2500 84-87 Column Shift; AT, w/o tilt wheel; w/pulse wiper

Switch cruise lever as needed.

|A| thru |F| fit as shown in notes.

|A|, |B| & |D| fit but options differ. Switch as needed.

|F| fits by transferring the wiper switch.
