Emissions requirements in Houston (Harris Co.)?
I’ve been reading different sites and trying to get to the bottom of it. The question I have is if a 1979 K10 will be required to pass some kind of emissions test in Houston/Harris County. Does anybody know for sure what the deal is?

Does Houston Texas require emissions testing?
In Houston, the inspection process is overseen by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) and performed by licensed inspection stations. The current car inspection laws in Houston require all vehicles to undergo an annual safety inspection and emissions test. This is what I googled |

Re: Emissions requirements in Houston (Harris Co.)?
I live in Harris co. Houston Texas. I have a 78 Siverado. A yearly inspection is needed BUT it is only a safety inspection. No emissions only lights, blinkers, stop lights, Wipers That's it. Real easy.

Texas has state requirements. The OP may want to check them rather than people's opinions, which are meaningless.

The link I posted is from texas.gov, the website run by the texas state government. It's not really an opinion. It's more of a fact. Please don't post unless you have the intent of being helpful or constructive.

Re: Emissions requirements in Houston (Harris Co.)?
LOL I own a 78 truck I live in Houston for the last 46 years. I have had it inspected 7 years in a row. Not sure how it is my opinion BUT we all have one I guess.
Let me add the Texas law is ANY vehicle over 25 years is required to be inspected for safety only/ NO EMMISSIONS SO right now today if your vehicle is a 1998 or older no emissions test are required. Next year the law will be for 1999 and older and so on. It is stated in a different form on the post above from the Tx DMV. and the cost is only $7.00 Last edited by kglowacky; 08-03-2023 at 02:01 PM. |

Re: Emissions requirements in Houston (Harris Co.)?
I very much appreciate the replies. For some reason when I looked it up I seem to have confused myself because of the different rules for Harris County versus other areas in Texas. Not requiring emissions, but requiring safety for a 1979 truck seems logical.
