Power Steering Pump Adaptation to GMC V6?

Any info or pics from folks that have mounted a later model pump to their GMC V6 engines? Working on my power steering conversion and would like to buy a pump...just curious if I am fabbing it all or if there is a combination of brackets that work?

You need to try and get the double groove pulleys for crank and W/P. That is half the battle.

Here is something I fabbed up using this EBay bracket and I think a Buick double groove P/S Pulley/Pump. I had a friend make me an extension to bolt up underneath. My fab skills are basic but this works.

I have also seen some use the chevy big block type of pump with remote reservoir.

I have a double groove on the crank so I may just try and fab something up to run solely off the unused groove. Is that what you mean?

Yes, I've seen some people use an idler pulley as well.

That makes sense. For me, I wouldn't mind having a separate belt running alternator and power steering just so losing 1 belt doesn't take it all out. I don't think losing a belt is much of a concern though.

There are 2 different size double grove pulleys that came on the V6, there also 3 grove pulleys.

If you are interested, I have a V6 power steering pump, brackets and pulleys, and adapters for steering box-to-frame.

I know this is very old, but curious about your extension on the bottom. Is it flat or offset? length between bracket bolt and mounting bolt?

Re: Power Steering Pump Adaptation to GMC V6?

Ahaynes; The extension on bottom is offset.

The hole I drilled in the bracket arm that sticks out; all I did was remove that front bolt from the engine mounting plate and made a mark and drilled it.

The lower extension not sure of measurement. I had to play around with it a bit to have one of the pulleys line up.

I'll see if I can get you some better pics and a measurement.

Great, thanks. I tried to get started making that extension piece, but didn't get far with the holiday. I appreciate the extra pics!

MusicMan70 thanks for all the pics. I finally got mine in. The ride to work this morning was so nice with the power steering in place. New shocks were nice to.
