What's it worth? 1971 GMC C30 Longhorn Sierra Grande
Gents,
I'm looking at buying this truck. 151,000 original miles with factory A/C, tilt, and AM/FM radio. The original 402 and TH400 transmission have been professionally rebuilt and are ready to be installed. The owner removed the front clip to pull the engine and transmission as a unit. It's very straight but has rusty rocker panels and cab corners. It's 100% complete. It has been sitting in his garage since 1994. He bought it in 1976. Any idea on approximate value? Just running and driving, I ball-park mine at 6k-8k. My 71 3/4 ton was in great shape all things considered. Got it for 500$, no motor no trans, out of a junk yard. Was really lucky. It has an LS now. I've seen fully restored ones got for up to $55k on auction though.

Re: What's it worth? 1971 GMC C30 Longhorn Sierra Grande
First of all, the truck is a GMC C3500, not a Chevy C/30. What a running and driving truck goes for does not apply here, and $8k would be high if it was. I'm thinking about $1,000-1,500, unless that engine was just recently rebuilt. Then abot $2,500-3,500. If you have a truck sitting for 26 years pulled apart that needs rust repair and you decide to sell it you won't get it's best value unless you put it together and get it running. It is either a junker to part out or a big project for someone. The money goes to the one who puts it together and gets it running, not the one who let it sit and go to crap

Consider the value of sum of the parts. The engine, Transmission plus the rolling chassis.
A couple of things float my boat about that truck, it being a GMC "Longhorn" and the two tone green. It's pretty nicely optioned too. It would be really sweet done up stock but it would take a lot of cash to get there.

Re: What's it worth? 1971 GMC C30 Longhorn Sierra Grande
I would be willing to pay a premium for a truck that has sat indoors for the last 26 years regardless of the rest of the package.
Whent I started looking at these trucks 35 years ago, NONE of them had rust in the cab roof, now MOST do. So a big block SRW Sierra Grande that has sat indoors even as a kit I would be quite interested in anywhere below $5k if the cab is rust free except maybe rockers and corners. Mechanical work is easy. Paint and body is a PITA and a ton of time and money.

Hell, that thing would part out for 5 grand or more. Especially North of the border. I would give $4500 for it in a heartbeat. And, if I was "Really" looking for something like that, $5500. He said that the engine and transmission had been rebuilt and were ready to be installed. A working AM/FM radio will bring $500, Nice original tilt $500, Decent original black steering wheel $300-$400, Woodgrain cluster and GB door, tailgate, rebuilt big block, rear slider, and on and on..... Give me a break guys. OK, I'm done.... LockDoc

In CA I’d say $4,500-$5k. Sierra Grande to boot.

That's a cool truck and worth buying if you are looking for a project. There is not a lot of good garage find restoration candidates around the Vancouver area.

Re: What's it worth? 1971 GMC C30 Longhorn Sierra Grande
If you got it for 5 Canadian you'd be a bandit. Our friends south of the border have got to remember our dollar is about 60% of theirs right now. My first truck was a 69 GMC Sierra Grande Longhorn 2500 small block with none of those sweet options. Dad bought it new. I'd kill for that truck!

Re: What's it worth? 1971 GMC C30 Longhorn Sierra Grande
Thanks to all for taking the time to reply. My plan would be to get it back on the road and leave the body and paint as is. It would be easy to get upside down on this truck if I pay someone to do body and paint. I have always appreciated survivor type vehicles.

Numbers matching? I thought the only thing you could tell is the year the motor is from. Unless protcoplate is had. And numbers matching doent mean anything on theas pickups any way. If it whare a z28 or Corvette then I'll would worry about it

Re: What's it worth? 1971 GMC C30 Longhorn Sierra Grande
I know they are out there, but the custom two tone trucks seem to be pretty uncommon to me especially in the higher trim levels. I’ve only seen a handful of Cheyenne supers and Sierra grande custom two tones. Even the Cheyenne and Sierra custom two tones don’t show up often. That’s a really nicely optioned truck if It’s all there just disassembled, I’d say 5-6k is doable to the right buyer who knows these trucks. My K20 was originally the opposite 557 paint, medium olive over dark olive.
