Question: There's two different style springs for the nail heads, which one goes where? One is tapered in slightly, and is such a small difference that I wonder if it event matters? |

Re: ???Drum Brake Assembly???
A good rule of thumb on the brake shoes was stuck in my mind by a High School auto shop teacher.

Re: ???Drum Brake Assembly???
I know this thread is pretty old but the link to the pictures was a life saver for me. Been a long time since I have done drum brakes. Add to that the PO had the shoes reversed so who knows what all was wrong. Add to that like a DA I took both rear brakes off at once. Had ordered hardware kit thought I was ready to go, no not all springs come in a hardware kit. Wait on mail order for them. Long story longer, about 2 weeks goes by for this 69 year old and lets just say this thread saved the day and made quick work of the replacement parts. I know it's done right and my son will be safe. Thanks again for the info and pictures.

Re: ???Drum Brake Assembly???
7th time, at least!
Yeah, the sequence pics for assembly at the beginning was huge for me. Hadn't done this in quite a while, and I was missing that 3rd hand required for a lot of jobs. Everything is harder when you're doing it wrong!Lol! Lower spring and star adjuster together first, then mounting the forward shoe on first took care of most of my gravity challenges. Pretty straight forward from there...

Re: ???Drum Brake Assembly???
So what would an 11" drums strut and lever look like? I have a 1967 fleet shortbox. I have been trying to find one online but idk if what I found will work or is right, even if the listing or parts are correct. The length of each would help too. I was told that 66 and earlier would not work with mine.

Re: ???Drum Brake Assembly???
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You!
Trying to put it back together after a few weeks. YUP took both side off, Had to. Recovered my Dad's 63 that had been sitting in the same spot since 91 a few weeks ago. He had to replace the rear end back in the day. Had to pull the rear drums and brakes just to get it to roll up on the trailer. PB-Blaster, Heat and sledge hammer plus 4 hours equaled 1 read drum off. The right rear only took 2.5 hours. The fronts rolled somewhat. Some parts just crumbled, and a few I must have dropped and lost.
