Firewall bracket for what?
Hey all, what is this bracket for? Other than holding up one side of my speaker?

Re: Firewall bracket for what?
Oh, the back of the radio somehow attaches to the bracket?

Re: Firewall bracket for what?
Yes, and the bracket system is not for that particular speaker you have. With GM vehicles you had to have their speaker to fit into their bracket, and back in the 70s or 80s there were no affordable speaker replacements or upgrades that fit. Nowadays you can order an exact replacement that will fit the original brackets, and you can buy used brackets here in the forum parts section and/or eBay, if you wanted to restore to original. The part of the bracket that holds the back of the radio is just for the stock radio, and the part of the bracket that holds the speaker is just for the stock speaker. https://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/...d.php?t=735298

Re: Firewall bracket for what?
I didn't mean to suggest that your speaker is a bad one to have, it is probably quite a bit of an upgrade to sound. It may be tight fit for A/C ductwork and a radio up in there with that bigger speaker, but from your picture it looks like it can be done. If rear support is a good idea for your particular radio, I would imagine some generic pipe-hanger metal strap would get the job done.

Re: Firewall bracket for what?
The after market LMC speaker I got fit in the stock mounting bracket. However, the speaker magnet's shape is different from the original so it doesn't slip right into the brace like the original but it works

Re: Firewall bracket for what?
Should be a small brace for back of radio and a piece to hold you speaker attached to that piece you have shown.

Re: Firewall bracket for what?
Oh, thanks, I'll take a look at the parts I have and see if there is anything like that. There was a junk aftermarket radio in the truck when I bought it and I'm trying to get close to OEM as much as I can. Except for things I am deliberately not doing OEM
